The weather is heating up nicely this week, I think summertime is here finally after a wet June. I’ve been doing my training runs early morning over the last two weeks when it’s cooler and also a lot quieter, compared to my normal time of about 4:30ish, anyways there’s a different sort of 10k available to do this week, it’s called the pitstop 10k and is organized by Darlington Harriers running club. A few things that are different with this one are it’s an evening race with a start of 7:30 pm I think this is a good start time in the summer I wish there was more that chose this start time, and the other thing is it’s held on Croft Motor racing circuit. It’s a three lap race and it’s all flat no curbs, grass or cars so a really Pleasant run, just switch off and run. I got down to Croft for 6 pm to a full car park,
loads of people about. There are some other races happening on the same evening, kids race, a 5k and a wheelchair race before the 10k which is last. I got my number and went for a warm-up which didn’t take long as it’s red hot this evening, I’m not planning on going flat out in the race as I’ve got an important run on Sunday and I wont to keep my legs fresh for that one, but I’m still going to run the last of the three laps at a good pace. We set off on time there’s a water station there opposite the pit lane and I say a good 200 people running the 10k, everybody started to spread out as it’s a race track you can see everybody in front and behind as you go round. On the last lap I picked up the pace a bit and headed in to the pit lane where the finish was, and crossed the line in 53 minutes which is a nice sensible easy pace for me.
I was given a nice medal I stayed with everyone else and saw everyone come in and everyone was clapping and cheering people over the finish line, I’d say this would make a good first 10k with it being flat and off-road, so you should definitely give it a go next year….
